Hey there! We’re the Rabadan family — the green thumbs and big hearts behind What Up Succa?
👩🌾 I’m Helen, and you’ll usually find me running the daily operations with my wife, Shirley. She’s our in-house tropical plant enthusiast — get her talking about monsteras or philodendrons and you’re in for a treat. Me? I’m all about the desert vibes: cacti and succulents are my jam.
🌵🌺 Together, we balance lush jungle and arid beauty like yin and yang.
And then there’s Zoe — our daughter, plant whiz-in-training, and full-on plant care pro when she’s not in school. She loves jumping in when she can to share her favorite tips, tricks, and plant-parent wins.
This business isn’t just a shop — it’s a piece of our home, our culture, and our joy. Whether it’s a vibrant altar for Día de los Muertos or a low-maintenance succulent buddy for your windowsill, everything we create is rooted in love, intention, and a whole lot of personality.

These altars are a celebration of memory, love, and connection. Each kit comes as raw basswood, no color. The real magic happens when you personalize it. Paint it. Add your own photo, surround by flowers, personalize it – make it as bold or as sacred as you feel.
Each kit comes with precut wood frame, flowers, candles and then you get to select additional figures to really make it your own!

Succas for Events
We bring your table centerpieces and giveaways to life while managing your entire event. Whether it’s a baby shower, political campaign, or birthday party, we have you covered. Our selection includes sempervivum, echeverias, as well as hardy outdoor and easy indoor plants. The 2-inch pots we use are charming and ideal for giveaways. We can also customize with personalized wooden plant stick messages, flags, or QR codes for activations. To further enhance presentation, we offer bundling options with burlap or tulle wraps.
Orders are typically placed in quantities of 25, with a minimum of two weeks’ advance notice required to avoid rush fees. The standard 2-inch pots are black plastic training pots with drainage holes to promote healthy plants. Terracotta pots are available for an additional charge. Delivery within the Chicago area is available for a fee, or you can opt for complimentary pick-up. Contact us and let us take care of all the details for your event.

Easy-to-grow plants suit beginners and busy people. They need minimal care, tolerate drought, and often thrive indoors with bright light.

Sempervivum thrive outdoors in full sun with some afternoon shade and suit containers or garden beds. Indoors, they need several hours of direct sunlight daily; otherwise, their colors may fade.
